Rembrandt van Rijn is not only one of the most important, he was also one of the most prolific artists of his time. In one, art historians agree: Of the numerous paintings, etchings and drawings that the Dutchman has created, "The Night Watch" is his great masterpiece. The monumental oil painting with the original title "Captain's Company Frans Banning Cocq and Lieutenant Willem van Ruytenburgh ready for the march" was completed by the Master of the Baroque in 1642.
