According to Greek mythology, Venus was born from the sea. One day, the amputated genitals of Uranus fell to earth and in their union with the sea, the goddess of love was born. It floats with a canopy held by winches and cupids and is accompanied by naiads and tritons. The gods, the fish, the water and the clouds form a swirling movement that the artist François Boucher painted in cold colors. The sea merges with the gray-blue sky and the horizon is barely recognizable. The composition and colors of the picture are part of the rococo, which is not surprising since François Boucher is the leading representative of French rococo. His paintings revolve around a series of motifs from the French rococo - mythological figures, pastoral scenes, chinoiserie, putti and various ornaments. © Meisterdrucke
