The Hardangerfjord, in Norwegian Hardangerfjorden, is an approximately 170 kilometer long fjord on the southwestern coast of Norway. It is one of the deepest and longest fjords in Norway. The region around the impressive fjord is also known as Hardanger. For Norway, the 1848 created painting "Brudeferd i Hardanger" (Hardanger Bride Drive) by Aldolph Tidemand is a national symbol that bears witness to the romantic, elevated mountain scenery. The Norwegian architecture is also expressed in the shape of the stave church, which can be seen on the left in the background. One recognizes in the picture a so-called bridal ride. This refers to the journey to the bride where you advertise around them. Since a marriage is at the same time an alliance between families, the bridal show is associated with impersonation and amounts to an exchange of social relationships. That's why it was customary to meet his future wife and it is still common in many parts of the world today to get to know one another or something similar. © Meisterdrucke |
