In the mighty halls of art history, the name of Paul-Elie Ranson is unmistakable, whose birth date dates back to March 29, 1864 in Limoges, France. A prominent designer and painter of Symbolism, he left an indelible mark on the world of art and established the prestigious Académie Ranson in Paris. Fate connected the young Ranson, whose mother died shortly after his birth, with art at an early age. His grandfather, with whom he grew up, gave him his first drawing lessons. His school journey took him to the École nationale supérieure d'arts décoratifs in Limoges, where his teachers quickly recognized his artistic talent and strongly encouraged him to continue his studies in Paris.
In 1888, seized with a yearning for artistic realization, Ranson was drawn to Paris. There he expanded his expertise under the guidance of Tony Robert Fleury at the prestigious Académie Julian. In his studio in the artists' district of Montparnasse, he created breathtaking works of art and soon became a recognized part of the artistic scene. His acquaintances included renowned artists such as Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Ker Xavier Roussel, Aristide Maillol, Felix Edouard Vallotton and Edouard Vuillard. He had a special friendship with Paul Sérusier, and together they founded the artist group "Nabis" (Prophets).
Ranson found his private happiness with his cousin Marie-France Rousseau, with whom he had his son Michel (* 1898). Together they wrote a new chapter in the history of art by founding the Académie Ranson in 1908. Home to teachers such as Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Roger Bissière, Ker-Xavier Roussel, Moise Kisling, Gustave Singier and Aristide Maillol, the school was known far beyond the borders of Paris.
