Nicolaes Pietersz. Berchem - “Rest on the Flight to Egypt, 17th century”
Art reproduction on canvas in an “Alia” decorative frame
In Berchem’s “Rest on the Flight into Egypt”, an idealised landscape with a tranquil, pastoral atmosphere unfolds. The scene depicts the Holy Family taking a moment’s rest, set against a vast natural backdrop of rolling hills, trees and warm light. Figures, animals and the surroundings come together to form a balanced composition in which narrative motif and landscape depiction complement one another harmoniously. The light falls softly over the scene, lending it a warm, almost timeless atmosphere typical of 17th-century Dutch painting.
In the 81 × 58 cm, the composition remains generously proportioned and clearly structured, with a harmonious balance between figure and landscape. The “Leonardo” canvas precisely captures the subtle transitions, lighting effects and details of the original; its satin-finished surface reveals a subtle, uniform weave in close-up.
The motif is stretched onto a stretcher frame and mirrored along the edges, creating a calm, continuous finish. The picture is framed by the “Alia” decorative frame in an ebony finish. The dark, finely textured surface frames the composition discreetly and provides a clear border around the bright, light-filled landscape. The border is complemented by the “Carlee” decorative moulding, which, as a fine fillet, creates an additional sense of depth and elegantly emphasises the transition between the picture and the frame. A serrated hanging mechanism screwed onto the back allows for stable and straightforward installation.
