Albrecht Dürer - “Squirrel”, 1512
Art reproduction on canvas in a ‘Riana’ frame
Dürer’s ‘Squirrel’ is characterised by a precision that never seems dry. The animals are captured with great attention to detail, with subtle postures, soft fur and that quiet vitality that makes Dürer’s studies of nature so special. He observes not only form and surface, but also the essence of this small subject. It is precisely in this that his significance as a Renaissance artist is revealed: for him, nature is not a mere side issue, but the subject of serious, almost loving contemplation.
The reproduction measures 25 × 30 cm and is executed on Salvador (Matt) canvas. The matt surface complements the delicate effect of the tempera original on parchment well and allows the lines, fur texture and muted colours to appear serene. No glass is used, leaving the canvas surface visible.
The ‘Riana’ decorative frame in a reddish-brown wood-effect finish echoes the warm, natural feel of the motif. Measuring 17 mm in width and 18 mm in height, it remains slim and unobtrusive. A screw-mounted serrated hanging mechanism completes the design.
