Harmonic oscillations are the building blocks for almost everything in physics. The artwork visualises the beauty of the underlying mathematics, but also speaks for itself as abstract geometric art.
Three-dimensional Lissajous figures, described by sin(5t)/sin(8t)/sin(11t). Projected onto the three coordinate planes, the more familiar 2D Lissajous figures result - three combinations of two of these functions, such as sin(5t)/sin(8t). Part of a series of four artworks, each showing the same structure from a different angle.
The pure spectral colours are used for aesthetic reasons that have nothing to do with the mathematics of these vibrations. However, the contrast between the rainbow colours and white is an allusion to dispersion.
