The eminent American painter, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, was always sure that nature should not be painted just as it was, for an artist should play with it, just as the pianist should play his instrument. The self-confident eccentric was able to give verbal, but gave himself sensitively and at the highest aesthetic level in his painting. Whistler impressed his compatriots in the mid-19th century with his post-impressionist and innovative painting style. In particular, the fascinating art of Japan of that time it had done to him: in England, the artist came into contact with the eastern painting. The poetic work "The Princess of the Land of Porcelain" pays homage to the inspiring land of his dreams and the exotic and delicate beauty of his wives. In the background of the painting, he skilfully integrated oriental patterns and carpets into the color harmony of the picture and still leaves the attractive young woman her appearance. © Meisterdrucke
