Watercolor Cardboard Coarse

Hahnemühle Torchon 285

The art of watercolor has a long tradition. Many great artists such as William Turner, Eugène Delacroix, Paul Cézanne, Lovis Corinth, Paul Klee and August Macke have left great artworks in this comparatively intimate genre. The format, which is often smaller in comparison to the painting, allows spontaneous sketches, for example, while traveling and in the open air, to capture a spontaneous light or a special mood. With wet-on-wet, glaze and wash, as well as in combination with other graphic techniques (ink, pastel), the range of expressive possibilities in this medium is particularly large. In terms of expression, it ranges from color-intensive, powerful and expressive to delicately-lapping, the fleeting nature of the moment of captivating painting.
With Hahnemühle's Torchon 285, the reproductions of the versatility of a true watercolor painting are amazingly close. As a very beautiful, hundred percent matte watercolor cardboard, it has a quality of 285 grams per square meter, a pleasant 'Torchon' structure. 'Torchon' is the French word for 'coarse linen texture'. This is also the haptic impression that occurs in this handy paper from α-cellulose. Hahnemühle Torchon 285 has a special ink-receptive layer for this purpose. This allows us to achieve exceptional color intensity and reproduction with our 12-color systems. We recommend Hahnemühle Torchon 285 not only for watercolors or gouache, but also for graphics (charcoal and red chalk, graphite or pencil drawings, ink).
Drawings, watercolors and even gouache need protection because of their high sensitivity. For example, from impairments caused by dust, fly droppings and humidity. For Hahnemühle Torchon 285, we strongly recommend storage behind glass, which should ideally be anti-reflective.
