"What is the Golden Age so green?", One or the other may ask. The Golden Age was called in Greek antiquity a mythological era before the Titanomachie. At that time, a primitive human race is said to have lived in heavenly conditions under the dominion of the vegetation god Kronos, who, before he was prophesied that one of his children would overthrow him, was still considered a good and just God. Because of the function of Kronos and the parallel to the Garden of Eden, János Vaszary painted that mythical epoch as a time when man and nature lived in perfect harmony with each other. The more Neoclassical motif is highly unusual for Vaszary, who was actually close to Fauvism and Expressionism, and far removed from both.
