Although Alexandre Cabanel titled his motif, which he worked on in several paintings, according to the Roman mythology with The Birth of Venus, it depicts the Greek birth myth of the goddess of love. According to this myth, from which also Venus Greek name Aphrodite (The Foam Born) derives, the love goddess rose from the foam that arose after the severed member of the oldest god Uranus had been thrown into the sea by his son Kronos. The painting depicts this act sensually. Venus is stretched out on the water in a pose that highlights her breasts. She seems calm, almost asleep. The water lies beneath her like a rug that carries her and leaves no trace of her flawless body. There are five cherubs hovering over Venus, who have been associated with love since antiquity. Two of them blow in shells as if announcing the birth of the goddess of love.

I think this is the most artistic painting depicting Venus. Not only the divine beauty of Venus, but also the liveliness of the Cubideses celebrating her birth is marvelous.
