| Brigitta is a slender wooden frame in antique white, whose finely grooved, brushed surface reacts beautifully to light coming from the side. Dark speckles and the subtle patina break up the cream-white finish without disrupting the calm overall impression. This creates a sense of warmth that stands out particularly well against white walls. The 20-millimetre-wide and 25-millimetre-high profile features a clearly stepped design: a narrow front strip with gently rounded edges sits above a recessed, wider lower profile. This design lends the picture a noticeable sense of depth despite its narrow face width. The recessed step casts a subtle shadow line on the wall, whilst the light-coloured front edge cleanly directs the eye towards the artwork. Such minimalist stepped profiles follow in the tradition of the understated gallery and studio mouldings of the 20th century, which were designed primarily to complement modern works and works on paper without becoming an ornament in their own right. From a market perspective, we particularly recommend ‘Brigitta’ for numbered editions, photographs and graphic series. Smaller contemporary originals with light or pastel colours also benefit from this understated frame. It is also well suited to high-quality reproductions in the wider market, as it has a modern feel without appearing cold. It is shown to its best advantage when the subject features clear areas of colour or an airy composition. |
