The Surreal Image Of A Polish Fishmonger From The 1950s. In the 1950s, Poland was a country still largely dominated by agricultural activities. It was also a country dependent on fishing, especially from its Caspian Sea coast. At that time, in a small village in Poland, an image was taken that remains surreal and disturbing to this day. It shows a fishmonger looking into the camera with a razor-sharp gaze as a fat fish is pressed into his hand.
