Mandalas are found not only in the Vajrayana, but also in other Buddhist and Hindu cultures, as well as in Indian cultural circles. The symbolism of a mandala is supposed to aim directly at the unconscious, so that certain areas of the psyche are addressed and stimulated by certain colors and shapes. A mandala can contain abstract forms and ornaments as well as representations of animals and others, as well as all kinds of symbols from religion, esotericism or psychology. Also natural motives can serve as Mandala. Colloquially, mandala in Western culture means different geometric, plant or figurative motifs aligned with a center, such as the mandala roof. Occasionally, patterns made from objects found in nature, such as colored stones and plant (parts), are also called mandala. Among these, seasonal mandalas are particularly popular, for example, autumn mandalas, which are usually made of colorful leaves or fruits.
