The Ludmina picture frame has that calm, dark aura which immediately lends a room a sense of tranquillity and cosiness. Its olive wood veneer is a genuine wood finish applied to a sturdy wooden core. The subtle grain remains visible beneath the anthracite-coloured finish, revealing delicate shades ranging from graphite grey to blackish grey. Nothing glints obtrusively in the light: the matt surface gently absorbs brightness, whilst the wood grain shines through in places, appearing warm and almost brownish. This creates a subtle patina effect without the frame appearing old. The 71 mm wide moulding is predominantly flat. Towards the picture opening, the 31 mm high profile slopes down in a softly rounded groove and ends at a narrow, dark inner edge. This gradation draws the eye and gently guides it towards the subject. Ludmina thus follows in the tradition of the 20th-century’s understated gallery frames, which clearly delineate paintings without overloading them with ornamentation. We particularly recommend it for atmospheric landscapes or modern, minimalist portraits. It looks at its best when the picture features light areas or earthy tones that enter into a quiet dialogue with its deep anthracite colour.
