Painting Frames "Lova" |
| • Serie: Triest • Width: 30mm • Height: 19mm |
| The Lova frame combines solid wood with a warm, antique gold finish. A dark patina is particularly evident in the recesses and along the moulded edges. This keeps the gold looking vibrant: raised sections catch the light more brightly, whilst the deeper lines clearly define the ornamentation. Measuring 30 mm in width and 19 mm in height, the profile is narrow yet has a substantial presence. On the outside, it begins with a slightly raised edge moulding. This is followed by a continuous frieze of stylised leaf motifs, bordered by fine mouldings. Towards the picture opening, a stepped, gently sloping edge directs the eye towards the subject. This structure is reminiscent of ornamented architectural mouldings and historicist frames of the 19th century. Such leaf friezes lent portraits, landscapes and smaller cabinet pictures a clearly defined yet festive border. From a conservation perspective, we particularly appreciate the visual separation: the dark contours prevent the gilded surface and the picture edge from merging. We are happy to recommend Lova for finely detailed portraits or romantic landscapes, such as those in the style of Caspar David Friedrich. It is shown to its best advantage when the picture itself features calm surfaces or warm lighting, and the delicate relief is given sufficient space to come into its own. |
