Painting Frames "Heide" |
| • Serie: Triest • Width: 30mm • Height: 19mm |
| The ‘Heide’ frame combines solid wood with a three-colour finish in black, dark Bordeaux red and antique gold. Measuring 30 mm in width and 19 mm in height, it has a slender yet distinctly defined profile. On both the exterior and interior, dark-coloured, slightly rounded mouldings frame a recessed ornamental strip. This gradation gently guides the eye towards the picture surface, whilst the relief lends the frame a sense of spatial presence. The continuous pattern is reminiscent of stylised palmettes and leaf tendrils from ancient ornamentation. Such motifs were frequently revived in 19th-century Historicism to integrate portraits, landscapes and stately interiors into the context of art history. Here, the gold-coloured decoration is broken up by a dark patina. In side lighting, the raised areas stand out warmly, whilst the recesses remain grey-black. Small burgundy-red sections beautifully link the ornamentation with the reddish traces on the dark mouldings. We particularly recommend ‘Heide’ for atmospheric landscapes by Caspar David Friedrich or 19th-century portraits with dark backgrounds. It looks at its best when the picture contains deep shades of brown, red or green, and the gold accents are allowed to highlight individual light areas. We find it a distinctive choice for historically inspired motifs, without visually overshadowing them. |
