Painting Frames "Diane" |

| The Diane frame is characterised by a striking interplay of warm natural brown, deep dark brown sections and understated antique silver. The profile is crafted from solid wood, the fine grain of which remains visible on the brown surfaces. Measuring 30 mm in width and 19 mm in height, it appears slender yet possesses a surprisingly pronounced sense of depth. The clear structure is particularly appealing from a craftsmanship perspective: narrow, slightly raised edges frame a recessed ornamental strip. Within this, a geometrically arranged relief is repeated, reminiscent of ancient palmette and arcade friezes. Such continuous patterns originally stem from architecture and were later also used on classically styled picture frames to rhythmically structure the transition between the wall and the image. Here, the inner profile gently guides the eye towards the subject, whilst the relief creates a sense of movement. The patinated, silver-coloured surface is most prominent on the raised areas. There, it catches the light, whilst the dark recesses hold the shadows. As a result, the pattern appears at times more distinct and at times more subdued, depending on the viewing angle. We particularly recommend ‘Diane’ for 19th-century portraits or finely detailed still lifes. The frame is shown to its best advantage when the picture features warm earth tones or individual cool highlights. |
