The Amparo picture frame derives its charm from the understated beauty of its olive wood veneer. Applied to a solid wood core, the real wood veneer displays a lively, at times striking grain with fine lines and natural irregularities. The colour ranges from light brown to a warm honey brown. The matt finish ensures that the light remains soft, without any reflective highlights, and the wood’s grain stands out with pleasing clarity. The 71 mm wide and 31 mm high frame is designed as a generous, flat profile. Its wide visible surface gives the wood room to breathe, whilst the gently sloping outer edge makes the profile appear less heavy. A narrow black inner edge runs along the edge of the picture. This dark transition draws the eye and clearly separates the subject from the warm wooden surface. Such wide, veneered flat profiles are reminiscent of Biedermeier frames, when visible wood grain was particularly prized in portraits, landscapes and prints. Amparo translates this tradition into a simple, rustic form. We particularly recommend it for atmospheric landscapes or understated botanical illustrations. It looks at its best when the picture features earthy colours, natural tones or clear areas of colour. We find it a lovely choice for rooms where wood, linen and light-coloured walls come together.
