Giovanni Giacometti

    March 7, 1868   -   June 25, 1933
Post Impressionism   •   Wikipedia: Giovanni Giacometti

In the heart of the picturesque landscape of Stampa, Switzerland, amidst the rugged, majestic mountains, emerged an artist who would revolutionize the traditional understanding of Swiss art. Giovanni Giacometti, born on March 7, 1868, was a painter and graphic artist of remarkable creativity and visionary sense. Together with his friend and colleague, the painter Cuno Amiet, Giacometti opened the doors to Post-Impressionist painting in Switzerland and led it into a new age of artistic expression. After studying in Munich and at the prestigious Académie Julian in Paris between 1888 and 1891, Giacometti began his artistic journey inspired by the bright colors of the Fauvists and the powerful originality of artists like Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh. However, it was the close relationship with Giovanni Segantini that had a decisive impact on him in the early years of his career. Giacometti eventually began to break away from Segantini's Divisionist style and adopt the Post-Impressionist style of French painting. It is this unique synthesis of different styles and influences that makes our high quality art prints of his works so unique and captivating.

In 1900, Giacometti married Annetta Stampa and the couple welcomed four children into their world: Alberto, Diego, Ottilia and Bruno Giacometti. Family life would prove to be a significant source of inspiration for Giacometti's work. His vivid portraits of his family and neighbors, such as the painter Elvezia Michel-Baldini, are warm and intimate depictions of everyday life. The landscapes he painted are also filled with an intense love and appreciation for the natural beauty of the world around him. These expressive and colorful works of art are a visual delight and our art prints reflect this in every detail. Giovanni Giacometti lived and worked in Glion, Switzerland until his death in 1933, and his artistic presence remains strong and impressive to this day. His work is a vivid representation of the Post-Impressionist style and an asset to any art collection. Each art print we offer of Giacometti's masterpieces is a tribute to this great artist and an opportunity to appreciate his brilliant vision and masterful craft. It is a reminder of a man who was able to bring colors and shapes together to tell a story that will be admired and loved for generations.
